Types of paper for corrugated cardboard production

Corrugated cardboard is produced by bonding straight paper (cover paper) and corrugated paper (wool). Depending on the number of layers, it is divided into 2-ply, 3-layer, 5-layer and 7-layer (see figure below).

Individual layers of cardboard may consist of different types of paper and weights. In addition, the individual layers of flutes can differ in height and pitch of each other. By combining different types of paper, weights and flutes in the cardboard layers, the specific properties of the cardboard are achieved.

Cover papers

Corrugated cardboard covers are produced in the following qualities:
KRAFTLINER - The highest quality paper for the cover layer that is made with an 80% share of sulphate pulp
TESTLINER - Multilayer paper made of different fibrous materials, the proportion of pulp is not determined, therefore only strength properties are defined and guaranteed.
SCHRENZ (gray) - Least quality paper made from recycled paper.

Fluting

Fluting is produced in the following qualities:
HALBZELLSTOFF -High quality paper, very solid semi-cellular paper made of wood fibers
WELLENSTOFF - Gray paper made from sorted (high quality) recycled paper
SCHRENZ (gray) - Least quality paper made from recycled paper.

Common flute sizes are "A", "B", "C", "E" and "F" or microflute:
